About Us
Here is a bit of information about us
In 1999 a group of local resident from Breckon Hill in Middlesbrough met together to discuss the lack of opportunities for local people in this area.
The group started to meet regularly in a resident’s house, and focused on bringing new services and opportunities for local people to interact and participate. Many individuals lost faith and grew tiered of battling against Red Tape; all they wanted to achieve was a base for activities and events.
Eventually Middlesbrough College and members of the Local Authority became involved, and with commitment, enthusiasm and passion, the committee was gifted with a porta cabin base.
With success brought strength 5 years later, the Community Association now manages a brand new “all signing all dancing” Community Centre. Fitted with all mod cons and technology the Community Centre now delivers a wide range of training courses, all with crèche provisions, events and social groups.
The centre also has a very 21st century café open to the public, which serves a variety of cultural foods, both hot and cold. The committee is ending a significant era this month (May) when the Douglas Street Community Centre, will close permanently due to structural decline. As one good thing ends- another good turn arrives Sincere Thanks must be sent to all those committed members who give their time voluntary to provide residents with the opportunities now available.
